When is the best time to move house?

If you want 2017 to be the year you move into the property of your dreams, you might be scouring Rightmove on a daily basis and wondering exactly when would be the best time to try to sell your current home. You ideally want to put your home on the market and find a buyer within a matter of weeks who is willing pay the asking price, or as close to it as possible. You don’t want to put your home on the market and have to wait six months or more, during which time you’ve probably found a property you love but it’s been snapped up by someone else while you waited for your home to sell.

Now is the time

Every area is different but the general consensus is that spring is the best time to sell a property. People aren’t on holiday or busy planning Christmas, flowers are sprouting in gardens, the sun is shining, the nights aren’t as dark as they were so people can admire your home inside and outside your property, even if they come in the evening… so start preparing your home now.

If you need to do any repairs or freshening up, get it done in the next couple of weeks, book some valuations with local estate agents or consider using online estate agents like Sarah Beeny’s Tepilo. You want your home to be on the market pronto as waiting until summer could add many weeks or months to the process as potential buyers will be going on holiday and could very well hold off doing any viewings or making an offer until they get back. You don’t want to have to wait until September/October if you can help it, especially if you want to be in a new home yourself by Christmas.

Next steps

Once you’ve sold your current home and had an offer accepted on your new home, you need to get organised and book your removal company. If you live in the Warrington, Wigan or one of the surrounding areas, why not consider Alexander-Hough Removals?

You also need to start thinking about what you want to take with you and if you’re downsizing, consider either selling items that won’t fit into your new home or consider putting them into storage.
